Meditating regularly also shrinks the amygdala, which is a good thing. We don't want the amygdala to disappear completely because we still need to be able to go into fight mode, or silence when faced with a real threat. However, those strong defense mechanisms don't necessarily respond with the same intensity to every surprising, stressful work moment, social media post, road rage incident, or routine stressor.
